French photographer Marilyn Mugot longs for dépaysement. The word does not have a direct English translation some dictionaries outline it as “disorientation” or “a transform in scenery,” but the artist describes it simply just as “this sensation of getting far away from house.” And she located it in China. Mugot shoots following darkish because the mild is “untamable.” When the moon comes up, she’s free and unbridled to wander the streets of cities she does not know. Sunset is a riddle she cannot resolve, specifically in unfamiliar terrain like Chongqing and Guilin.
