Photographer and documentary Camilo Jose Vergara uses photographs as "a means of discovery, as a tool to clarify visions and build knowledge about a particular city or place." Pictures for Vergara are the starting point in asking questions Or links to other images or exploring new territories and ideas.
In 1970, Vergara began documenting street life in New York, which involved children, families and communities living in the city's urban breakup. The photographs of Vergara showed parts of New York, which looked like bomb zones of military operations, devoid of areas that suffered from the worst in the city and in a state of indifference.
